A More Fun Way to Look at Parts of Speech

Noun – is a word used to name a person, animal, place, thing, and abstract idea.

Verb – asserts something about the subject of the sentence and express actions, events, or states of being.

Transitive Verb – is a verb that requires both a direct subject and one or more objects.

Intransitive Verb – is a verb that has a subject but does not require an object.

Adjective – modifies a noun or a pronoun by describing, identifying, or quantifying words.

Adverb – an modify a verb, an adjective, another adverb, a phrase, or a clause.

Preposition – links nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words in a sentence.

Conjunction – a word that can be used to link words, phrases and clauses. Ex. and

Pronoun – can replace a noun or another pronoun.

Interjection – is a word added to a sentence to convey emotion.
